Эд Шульжевский
Ed Shulzhevskiy was born in an artistic family in Krasnodar, Russia. As a singer, he was making his first steps at the very childhood under supervision of his own father. Later, Ed shared his time between the studies in a musical school and piano lessons. Among the other causes of the singer's career was a passion for professional dances: After the 9th year in school Shulzhevskiy joined the Choreographic lyceum at University of Culture of Krasnodar. The first performances in vocal festivals brought the singer to a level of personal success.
At the age of 17, Shulzhevskiy moved out in Moscow in order to apply for the continuing education. Despite the experience of the older friends who failed the entrance examinations he took the risk and filed his papers to several institutions at once. As a result, Ed was accepted to the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (Russian: ГИТИС), while for his brilliant interpretation of the aria from the musical Notre-Dame de Paris in French he went directly to the second year grade.
Shortly after joining the Academy Ed received the invitation to the auditions for the musical Metro, but gave up the idea to continue his studies. In the third year Ed decided to pass from theory to practice and took part in several auditions. He received a number of offers immediately, but he chose Notre-Dame de Paris. His unique voice charmed Ekaterina von Gechmen-Valdek and Alexander Vainshtein. During the same day, the producers of the musical approved Shulzhevskiy as captain Phoebus.
At the same time Shulzhevsky received offers from producers regarding his career as pop-singer but rejected them all : the condions of contracts were quite severe, the projects themselves were not considered as a long-termed ones but were aimed only at financial result. “They began to overflow me with phone calls, offering job in their projects – tells Shulzhevskiy – I’ve already been thinking about solo career, but I didn’t want to squander my talents on trifles and to become nonce-artiste”.
In 2004, after the closure of the Notre-Dame de Paris, Ed was invited to take part in the auditions of Romeo and Juliette. After his outstanding debut as captain Phoebus, Russian media immediately baptized him as the main Russian Romeo.
Ed’s solo career started in 2006 with a record of two songs Снег (lyrics and music by Ed Shulzhevskiy) and Странная жизнь (lyrics and music Ed Shulzhevskiy), – both compositions were in rotation lists of Russian radio stations. Ed began recording on his own by spending on that the money he has been paid in theater. However, the fate brought the singer with a man who offered to try recording together in the name of a stage.
The first serious success came to Ed with the record of songs Я и ты (lyrics by Lara d’Elia, music by A. Lunev) and My baby (lyrics by O. Tomashevskiy, music by A. Lunev). The tracks were picked by director Georgiy Toidze to become video clips, while MTV and Muz-TV put them on the playlist. During the filming of My baby the singer got acquainted with the guys from Vacuum – Swedish composers and producers Mattias Johan Borje Lindblom and Anders Wollbeck (Alcazar, Rachel Lauren Stevens, Monrose). In May 2008, the musicians composed a song Good Things (Я научу тебя летать in Russian, lyrics by Karen Kavaleryan) and later recorded it in Stockholm.
Back in the beginning of 2008, Shulzhevskiy performed with a live rock-quartet for the first time. The performance took place at the party of Yes! magazine in the club B1 Maximum. As a band on the stage, Ed comes along with Sergey, Vladimir, Alexander and Dmitriy.
