渡辺美里
Watanabe Misato (渡辺 美里, born 12 July 1966) is a female Japanese pop music artist.
Her debut single 'I'm free' was released by Epic Sony (now Epic Record Japan) on 2 May 1985. It was a cover of a track with the same title from the Footloose original soundtrack. The b-side of the single was another cover song 'Don't Cry', a song from the band Asia. Her first number-one national chart place was 'My Revolution', composed by Tetsuya Komuro, in 1986. Apart from 'My Revolution', Misato also has a number of hit singles reaching the Top 3. Misato's first album 'eyes' was released in October 1985. With a powerful vocal and energetic tunes, the album reached the highest position of No. 4 in the album chart several weeks after its release. From 1985 - 2000, she had all her first twenty-one albums entering the Top 10 of the Oricon album chart, in which nine albums reached number one..
Throughout the years, Misato has had concerts in a lot of big stadiums around the country including Tokyo Dome, Yokohama Arena, Osakajou Hall, etc. She is the first female singer ever in Japan to have concerts in huge stadiums. Every summer from 1986 to 2005, she performed live concerts in Seibu Lions Stadium (now Goodwill Dome) in Tokorozawa City in Saitama Prefecture, near Tokyo. Around 700,000 people have attended her twenty-one Seibu Dome concerts in the last twenty years. It has become a record. After the 20-year Seibu Dome project, Misato has started something new, Misato Matsuri 2006 in Yamanoko near Mt Fuji and about 9,000 people attended this open-air concert. Misato Matsuri has taken place in Yokohama and Kumamoto this year under the title "Cosmic Night 2007" and "Cosmic Castle 2007".
