다비치
Davichi (다비치) is a South Korean pop-ballad duo consisting of Kang Minkyung (강민경) and Lee Haeri (이해리). Davichi is derived from the Korean word "Dabichi", which means 'the light to shine over the world'. The members of Davichi are widely recognized for their impressive vocals. Their songs have been critically acclaimed for both their deep meanings and their vocal performance. Lyrically, their songs deal with love, loss, and lust and range from catchy pop songs to powerful ballads.
2008: Debut, "슬픈 다짐" and "사랑과 전쟁"
Davichi received massive attention before their official debut when it was revealed that member Kang Min Kyung was a former internet eoljjang. It was also revealed that popular celebrities Lee Mi-yeon and Lee Hyori were supporting their upcoming debut and would be appearing in their debut music video. With this news, many predicted Davichi would go on to win many rookie awards.
The duo released their debut full-length album, 'AMARANTH' on February 4, 2008. They originally promoted the track "미워도 사랑하니까", which went on to win 'Rookie of the Month (February)' from the Cyworld Digital Music Awards. After finishing promotions for "미워도 사랑하니까", the duo went on to begin promotions for the song "슬픈 다짐". The song managed to win a 'Mutizen Award' from SBS Inkigayo, securing Davichi's place as outstanding rookie artists.
On July 8, 2008, after months of mainstream music hiatus, the duo returned with a repackaged edition of their first full-length album, titled, 'Vivid Summer Edition'. "사랑과 전쟁" was used as the promotional single. The song continued Davichi's growing popularity and managed to win two music station awards and one Cyworld Digital Music Award.
In the final months of 2008, Davichi 'sweeped' the year-end music awards, by winning 'Best New Artist' at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, and the Seoul Music Awards.
2009: "8282" & Rise in Popularity
On March 5, 2009, Davichi released their first mini-album, titled 'Davichi In Wonderland'. "8282" was used as the promotional single. The song went on to win four music station awards and one Cyworld Digital Music Award. Many marveled at the song's ability to stop the winning streak of Girls' Generation's smash-hit "Gee". The song is considered their breakthrough hit and later won three Bonsang awards at year-end award specials.
2010: "시간아 멈춰라"
On May 6, 2010, the duo released their second mini-album, titled 'Innocence'. The music video for the lead single, "시간아 멈춰라" featured Eunjung of T-ara.
"Time, Please Stop" did not win any music station awards, but managed to hit number on Korea's Gaon Digital Chart.
