A Filial
In December 2006, the CD Quem Menos Tem é Quem Mais Oferece arrived in the stores, with a style out of all the conventions. Hip hop? MPB? Pop music?
“Cut”. Returning to the first scenes: The year 2000 marks the beginning of the work of the group A Filial. More precisely when Edu Lopes, an old face on the carioca hip hop scene, decided to bring together his heterogenous musical influences in a new project. From Antonio Carlos Jobim to A Tribe Called Quest, Edu brings with him the experience of the much-missed The Funk Fuckers, the band created together with BNegão which comprised – like Planet Hemp, O Rappa and Black Alien – the nucleus, known by another name, which would give a new face to the music produced in the streets of Rio de Janeiro in the 1990s: the hemp family.
From that moment on, A Filial would gain publicity and media time on important media vehicles in the country, such as ‘Rolling Stone Brasil’, MTV and Bizz.
It wasn’t by chance that Quem Menos Tem é Quem Mais Oferece arrived on the scene from the hands of Dubas Música, the renowned label of the composer and producer Ronaldo Bastos, responsible for releases and re-editions of prime works by the big names of Brazilian music, such as Edu Lobo, Marcos Valle, Milton Nascimento, Dom Um Romao, Elza Soares etc.
The waves made by Quem Menos Tem é Quem Mais Oferece are accompanied by other great news: the first CD of the group, an EP of the same name, which came out independently in Brazil in 2001, will be released in the US on the Verge Records label in the coming months.
A Filial are: Edu Lopes (voice), Flávio 52 (saxophone, flute, cavaquinho, voice), Ben Lamar (trumpet, keyboards, voice), Castro (DJ, keyboards, voice) and Rodrigo Pacato (percussion, voice).
