Adi Smolar is an acoustic guitar player and singer/songwriter from Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia.
Biography:
Adi Smolar is a popular slovenian singer and songwriter. He was born on 25. March 1959 in Slovenj Gradec, later he also lived in Muta and Vuzenica, while he spent his student days in Ljubljana and he also settled there for a longer time. Today he lives with his wife and son in Šmartno pri Slovenj Gradcu.
His first gig was held in Cerknica in 1981 and in the following decade he frequently played his own songs at minor events like literary meetings and gallery exhibitions. In that time he gained a moderate following and in 1989 he finally released his first album on cassette. During the nineties he released eight studio albums, one live album and one compilation. He is most known for his hilarious lyrics that often contain also the critique of modern society and values. He plays acoustic guitar but his music frequently also contains folk elements.
He is a prolific writer and lyricist. Besides writing his own songs he also contributed about 40 songs for other popular Slovenian singers. He also writes stories and songs for children. During his career he also got some awards: 7 Zlati petelin awards, 2 Viktor awards for popularity.
