Alaska Thunderfuck
Justin Andrew Honard (born 6 March 1985), better known by his stage name Alaska Thunderfuck 5000, is an American drag performer, model and recording artist from Erie, Pennsylvania, United States who originally rose to prominence as the runner-up on the fifth season of the American reality competition television series "RuPaul's Drag Race" in 2013.
After studying theater in college, Honard originally moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue acting. Dissatisfied with the auditioning process, he turned to drag and began a full-time career in West Hollywood, eventually relocating to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before returning to Los Angeles.
American television audiences were first introduced to Alaska through audition reels of past seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race. During season four of RuPaul's Drag Race, when it was revealed he was the boyfriend of contestant Sharon Needles and appeared in a video message to show her support. Despite having auditioned for every season, Alaska would not be cast until season five, eventually becoming runner-up, along with fellow competitor Roxxxy Andrews, to Seattle-based drag performer Jinkx Monsoon.
After four years together, Alaska and Sharon Needles ended their much-publicized relationship in 2013, citing conflicting work schedules and irreconcilable differences. It was around the same time that Honard had announced that he had become sober, revealing that he had alcoholic problems in the past.
Consistently touring with other Drag Race alumni in both "Battle of the Seasons" tours and Drag Race cruises, Alaska has also had a number of one-woman cabarets ("Stevie Forever," "Red for Filth," and "Blue Christmas" among others), starred as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the Woodlawn Theatre's production of The Rocky Horror Show, and also has a web series for World of Wonder. She also regularly uploads videos on her personal YouTube channel and is noted for her congenial and friendly nature with her fans.
In 2013, Honard began his recording career as Alaska Thunderfuck, releasing his debut single "Ru Girl". He later appeared in the collaboration song "Kai Kai" with Sharon Needles and Ana Matronic from Scissor Sisters. In 2014, he released his second single "Your Makeup Is Terrible", which quickly became an Internet hit for the artist, also appearing on the collaboration single and music video "I Look Fuckin' Cool" with Adore Delano. Near the end of the year, he followed it up with his third single, "Nails". Alaska plans to release her debut studio album sometime in 2015.
Alaska has also starred in a modeling campaign for American Apparel alongside fellow Drag Race alumni Courtney Act and Willam Belli. The trio would go on to collaborate in "American Apparel Ad Girls" and "Dear Santa, Bring Me a Man".
Honard has created a mythos for origin story of Alaska Thunderfuck on his official website. It states: "In March of 1966 an unidentified spacecraft crash landed in the Matanuska Valley in the south-central region of Alaska. Officials of the US government were able to recover one lifeform from the crash-- a highly radioactive and severely disfigured alien being of unknown species who identified her/itself as Alaska Thunderfuck 5000. While no signs of food or water or other forms of sustenance were found onboard the spacecraft, an Elmer's gluestick, a can of Tab energy drink, and a 1972 copy of Vanity Fair magazine were the only items recovered from the smoldering wreckage.
After being examined and studied by officials of the US government, the genderless and sexless being was held captive against her will in a top secret research facility in Alaska, before making a daring escape sometime in the mid 1980s. "She must have slipped out while I was in the john," explained the night watchman.
The Thunderfuck being has been on the loose ever since, and remains on the run from government officials. Her attempts to maintain a low profile have been mostly successful, posing as a female-impersonator/drag queen/human being, performing acts of filth and depravity in gay bars, gin joints, and transsexual hideouts across the nation. Her status as renegade extra terrestrial has garnered her some notoriety among homosexuals, transients, and other drug-addled drifter types, and there is even rumoured to be a strain of marijuana named after her.
While Thunderfuck hides behind a thin veil of camp and light-hearted frivolity, she remains highly dangerous and is not to be trusted. Her effusive radiation has caused cancer in lab rats, and many of the guards assigned to her watch suffered from various ailments ranging from rectal bleeding and irritable bowel to insomnia and hysterical pregnancy. If you or anyone you know have any information as to the whereabouts of this rare and dangerous being, please dial 1-800-THUNDERFUCK immediately." Read more on Last.fm.
