Alpha Flight
At the core, Alpha Flight is composed of lyricists Ghettosocks & Mr. Bix and DJs Y-Rush & Jabba tha Cutt. Having numerous affiliates stretching from Halifax to Japan, the crew has established themselves to a growing fan base as a true underground collective. Formed in 2003, Halifax members Y-Rush, Jabba, Ghettosocks, Mr. Bix, Process, and Aziz the Traveller (Kyle McMullin RIP) joined forces with Ottawa's Highneken, DJ Kaem, and DJ Frame to expand the group. In 2004 Alpha Flight achieved residency at Halifax's Khyber Club, continuing in the tradition of artists like Gordski of the Goods, Jorun and Scratch Bastid. The weekly wednesday night showcase, 'Droppin' Science,' is one of Halifax's freshest weekly underground hip hop nights. With a broad interest in a spectrum of musical genres ranging from contemporary jazz to russian folk, and from experimental electronic music to 60's rock, Alpha Flight brings refreshing perspectives to hip hop for the true heads. Rap wise, influences include many classic early 80s DJs and MCs (such as Kool Herc, Jazzy Jeff, Eric B. & Rakim, and Big Daddy Kane, etc.) as well as an array of important late 80's / early 90's artists (Gangstarr, DITC, A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, KMD, Rza, etc.). The result is that each individual brings their own style and flavour to the table, providing listeners with a wide variety of sounds and concepts. After many shows and working long distance between the two cities, the debut Alpha Flight album was released in January 2005 entitled 'Battle Royale'. Read more on Last.fm.
