Alu
Not to be confused with the eclectic solo chanteuse / female composer - Alū, ALU is an electro-synth / guitar-driven / hysterical post-punk / power electronics trio from Berlin.
Started as duo in 1980, that rose from the ashes of the krautrock group Sand, consisted from Ludwig Papenberg (of Variété Kontrast) and Johannes Vester (aka VK 88).
In this line-up ALU released only one 7" single "Bitte warten Sie! / Liebe machen" on their own label Der Letzte Schrei ! in 1981 - this two songs where originally part of "Autismenschen" album which was written and produced in 1980 (but never released until 2005).
Music of early ALU was a metallic amalgamation of monotonous, hypnotic sounds and laconic singing, but by 1981, they flowed to harsh, motorised beat with guttural sound at war with everything around. Finally, on 31.07.1981, at Risiko, Nadja Molt's paranoid vocals mutated ALU into holistic violent-psychopathic trio.
As trio ALU released four albums, three of them are recorded live during various shows around Berlin's legendary venues, including: S.O. 36 on "Berlin Atonal" festival, K.O.B. and of course city Music-Hall - which where ideal for their industrial sound.
