Arranco de Varsóvia
Vocal group dedicated to the repertoire of samba, was created in 1996 in Rio de Janeiro with the name Arranco de Varsóvia (Arranco of Warsaw, "arranco" has really a regional meaning but can be almost like "pull off"), because of Polish descent of three of its five members, Paul Malaguti, Soraya Ravenle and Eveline Hecker. In addition, the initial group had yet Muri Costa and Zélia Duncan, who soon left and was replaced by Rita Peixoto. Inspired by vocal groups in the 30's and 40's, like "Bando da Lua" and "Anjos do Inferno", the singers and musicians of Arranco wear with new clothes the repertoire of composers like Cartola, Heitor dos Prazeres and Pedro Caetano in modern vocal and instrumental arrangements . In 1997 released the first album by the seal Dubas, "Quem É de Sambar". The second came next year, "Samba de Cartola," with all songs dedicated to the founder of the "First Station of Mangueira" (one of the most essencial icons of samba in Brazil). Praised by criticis, the disc featured Nelson Sargento and Beth Carvalho. Read more on Last.fm.
