Atarix
"Emerging out of the newborn underground of one of the most contrasting cities on earth, Moscow, Sergey Khaninev aka atarix is hard to 'put a tag upon'. Started way back in the mid nineties as 'Rebell Terract', using the legendary commodore amiga, riding the wave of new possibilities in the post-soviet empire's capital city, he sucks in a variety of musical styles and drops them into his own style. Call it breakcore, hiphop, glitch, drill 'n bass - all mixed and mashed together in his own 'atarix'-way - Khaninev sure is one of Russia's pioneers when it comes to the harder 'bastard-sons' of the electronic musical spectrum. Having played alongside the big names of those scenes, alec empire, venetian snares, otto von schirach and many others, he never was standing still at any point - a constant search for new sounds resulted in various releases, his own label Trutypesounds and some collaborations kept the project going in several musical directions. Choosing the 'hard way' - not to serve any audience by copying himself, he truely proves what hard and experimental music production is about in an ever-changing world, where music styles change like 3 times-a-season. The 2007 release 'age of gemini' (acidsamovar records) marked atarix as a leading producer, and showed also what he is capable of - like a surgeon he chops beats, samples and breaks, stitches the pieces back together and creates a new lifeform. And the story ain't over yet : prepare for another assault of new slices, straight out of Megalopolis Moscow." Patrick Stevens. Read more on Last.fm.
