Barbara Doust
Barbara Doust is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Born in Toronto, she was the original lead vocalist for Tapps, one of Canada’s Eurodance/Hi-NRG recording acts. Doust’s voice graces all of Tapps’ early recordings, including the top-selling single My Forbidden Lover.
This song was one of the most successful dance records in Canadian history, charting at #1 for ten weeks with TOPA, Canada's most influential record pool. My Forbidden Lover went on to become one of the best-selling Hi-NRG records worldwide, reaching the #2 spot single in Holland on the dance chart and garnering to date, almost one million hits on YouTube.
Doust also recorded the original Burning with Fire, which she co-wrote with producer Vince DeGiorgio. Even though she was the voice behind Tapps biggest selling single, Doust never appeared live with the band. Their European album cover featured Allan Coelho and Tony Da Costa with a model who was not a vocalist.
After her studio work with Tapps, Doust recorded and released If You Love Somebody and Dance in Neon Light, (lead and back-up vocals/Spinner Records) which won the seventh annual Hi-NRG Music Awards Best Indie Single. (Ref: Billboard 17 June 1995 Vol. 107, No. 24 Pg. 28)
In 1999, Doust recorded and released her version of I Found Someone, (Logic Records/music and lyrics by Michael Bolton and Mark Mangold), which climbed to #2 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Breakouts Maxi-Single Sales. (Ref: Billboard 23 Oct 1999 Vol. 111, No. 43 Pg. 38.) Five mixes were made, one of which appeared on the highly acclaimed Aids fundraiser album, “The White Party: Anniversary Edition,” reviewed in Billboard Magazine Dec 18, 1999.
Her live performances led her to work with a Toronto-based Disco band Neon Crush and she sang with them for 6 years.
Barbara continues to perform live and is looking forward to more studio and commercial work.
