Bizarre Unit
Bizarre Unit is a electro, synth, minimal band from Birmingham, England, who existed between 1979 and 1982.
The band members were Paul Nova (bass, synth), Mark Fane (vocals, guitar) and Christine Francis (synth, keyboards). They formed in late 1979 after the split of punk band 'The Rezizters' from Cannock, West Midlands, England; to pursue a more electro, synth, more futuristic, atmospheric sound.
In September 1980 the single 'Dancing/Away From The Screaming Car' was recorded at MRS studios, Walsall. Released in March 1981, a run of 1000 copies were produced. Unfortunately Christine Francis left the the band just before the release of the single and although the duo regularly performed gigs in Birmingham City Centre, and recorded a second single (Frozen Wasteland of Alaska/Lovers in Paris) the band were not able to sustain the initial momentum and finally broke up in 1982. Performing their last gig at the Birmingham night club 'Romeo & Juliet's' on June 10th of that year. Paul Nova continued to produce records up to 1987, with the album 'Trees Without Leaves' being his most notable release.
Their debut single is now very sort after and hailed as a classic by electro, minimal fans everywhere, especially in Europe and word has even reached as far as Peru. New uploads are almost daily now on 'You Tube'. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
