Botnleðja
Botnleðja (icelandic for "silt") is an Icelandic band formed in 1994. They have produced some of the best and most memorable rock songs to come from Iceland. They won the Músíktilraunir "battle of the bands" in 1995: the prize was 25 hours in a studio, but their first album "Drullumall" (1995) was recorded in only 24 hours. For the follow-up, "Fólk er Fífl" (1996-1997) they won the Icelandic Music Awards for Best Song, Best Album and Best Band.
Members: Heiðar Örn Kristjánsson (guitarist and singer), Ragnar Páll Steinsson (bassist), and Haraldur Freyr Gíslason (drummer).
After they released the album they began touring internationally with bands like Blur. I don't know exacly how the story goes but one day when they were rehearsing for a show with Blur, some of the band members of Blur heard them play the song "þið eruð frábær" and liked it so much that today it is usually known as "Song 2".
Their third "Magnyl" (1999) was a little bit more experimental than their usual grunge, punk rock but it got brilliant reviews. For “Magnyl” Botnleðja won the Icelandic Music Awards for Best Album and Best Band.
The fourth album "Douglas Dakota" (2000) was recorded in Cornwall England and was released by Botnleðja's own label "Spik ehf" (fat inc) in 2000.
Their most recent album is "Iceland National Park" (2003). They're still playing together but Heiðar has started his own solo career The Viking Giant Show and Haraldur(Halli)is playing solo as Fulli Kallinn.
