Calle Della Morte
Calle della Morte is a neofolk group from Venice, Italy born from the teaming-up of Jonny B (Inner Glory) and Vinz I.H.S.V. (former session man with Ain Soph, Inner Glory, Der Feuerkreiner, Macelleria Mobile di Mezzanotte) back in 1999. The occasion is given by the participation of the band to the Ain Soph Tribute with the track “Nevi eterne”.
There's never been any planning, no carefully crafted project or marketing strategy to sell a new product: "Calle Della Morte is the breath of Venice which lives within us. She's our mate during sleepless nights, the pander of our loves, the bottle of wine we can't live without. Venice, by all means, is the third member of the band. The guiding inspiration, the hand that brings the ruby red glass to the lips of our desires. We don't want to follow the stereotypes expressed by others before us but on the other hand we cannot avoid quoting her or referring to her between the lines. 'Our Pander' tames us to her rhythms, her tidings, her wishes. It is in a trance like state that we fall into and that we compose in...".
The name Calle della Morte is not fictional, the Calle in question really does exist and is linked to sad events happened under the Serenissima Republic. During the Venetian Republic, Calle della Morte was a small L shaped street which was walled at one end. In this street the people not aligned to the Republic would frequently disappear, those who could not afford to Go under trial or political enemies or even spies. It is not by chance that the group took inspiration from an event (Gente di malaffare) which really took place, where two poor men disappear after being mistaken for two spies from Genoa.
"Our stories are there, there is nothing made up. Venice is under the eyes of everyone, we therefore invite you to live it through our songs". Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
