Charivari
1]
Charivari (pronounced shah ree – va ree) was a south Louisiana Cajun band. Its members varied and included Mitchell Reed (fiddle), Jonno Frishberg (fiddle, accordion), Randy Vidrine (guitar, vocals), Alfred “Bo” Ledet (bass), Matt Swiler (drums), Lois Sprague (bass), Zach Huval (accordion), and Ben Goodwin. Several members of the band have departed to work on other bands and projects; however, Charivari occasionally reunites for performances. They play traditional Cajun music as well as their own compositions.
Charivari was originally named the Mamou Prairie Band. Their label, Rounder, advised them to change their name because it sounded too similar to other Cajun bands. A charivari is a Cajun tradition; it is a party thrown at a newlywed couple’s house. It happens when the bride or groom remarries to someone who has never been married before.
The band released two CDs: I Want to Dance With You (2000) and A Trip to the Holiday Lounge (2005).
