Charlie Spivak & his Orchestra
Charlie was born in New Haven in 1906. He played with Paul Specht's orchestra in the late 1920s and later played with others such as Ben Pollack, Ray Noble, Tommy Dorsey. He married his girl singer, Irene Daye. With his muted trumpet style he was introduced as the "Sweetest Trumpet of Charlie Spivak" and was often compared with Harry James as to who played the best horn. He played into the 1960s and retired to Greenville, SC where he opened his own club. He died on March 1, 1982. Read more on Last.fm.
