Chella H
Chella H. was born and raised in Chicago, roughest projects. Although she grew up fatherless, and watched her mama battle drug addiction until she turned 14, she started writing songs, using music to reach into the souls of her peers. Shortly after, her brother went to prison, leaving her once again without a man in the house, so she moved out and hit the streets to get on. She dealt with men twice her age, peddled drugs, and basically did what had to be done to make money. By the time she turned 15, she was pregnant with her son. She was determined to steer him clear of the path that she took growing up in the hood. Losing both her brother and her baby daddy in the same week to the streets was the biggest heartbreak she has ever experienced. Overcoming those obstacles has definitely groomed Chella into the soldier that she is today. This passionate, empowered, charismatic and inspirational, glamorous lady and street credible gangsta, calls herself a gospel artist - because she speaks the truth. Youthful enough to attract a younger audience yet mature enough for adult fans to appreciate where she’s coming from. She’s from the streets, but isn’t limited by them. This “High Clazz Hoodrat”-a chick from the hood that came from nothing, and found a way to eat, she’s fly, stays rocking the latest fashions, and be about her $$- is very confident in her sexuality but isn’t going to let that be the only reason you want to hear her story. After years of having very few signed artists to represent Chicago Hip-Hop, Bump J, Sly Polaroid and their crew Goon Squad managed to build a huge mixtape following. In 2003, Bump J signed to Atlantic Records and began working with Kanye West.. Never afraid to get in a man’s face and make demands, Chella H. made Bump J an offer he couldn’t refuse, “cut me in or cut it out!” With that being said he asked her to join Goon Squad and they began performing around the city, appearing on mix tapes, DVD’s and videos. Over the next few years as industry ruckus arose amongst the Goon Squad Affiliates, Chella H set out on her own to distance herself from the negativity. True to her name, Chella H. used her street buzz as a catalyst to sell 10,000 copies of her mix tape “Menstrual Painz. Vol. 1" independently, doing her own marketing, and distribution in everything from liquor stores, to gas stations, fast food joints, to beauty salons and barber shops, Chella even employed homeless people in various neighborhoods to aid in distribution paying them a profit off total CD sales. Determined not to play second to any of her male peers, she founded her own label imprint and women’s empowerment organization, Get It Girlz, Inc., even sponsoring an annual “Back-To-School Picnic” and “Christmas Toy Drive.” Her authoritative presence, flawless delivery and ability to deliver unflinching, heartfelt accounts of her struggle to survive make her a problem for even the best male and female emcees. She is versatile and unafraid to experiment. Even without a major record label behind her or endorsements from Gucci, Louis Vuitton or Christian Dior,Chella Hustle’s exceptional style, decadence and glamorous blonde hair-dos are her trademarks, earning her fashion icon status in the streets, club and fashion scene. She is just what the rap game is missing, “A HighClazz Hoodrat." Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
