Chenard Walcker
Chenard Walcker is a cut and paste/collage artist & automatic writing activist working in Paris, France.
Chenard Walcker was raised upon no secret formula but this one : Surrealist altruism. So, he became a collage addict. He made his first steps in the visual field, but soon let aside photomontages to concentrate only on music.
Chenard tries to explore the potential of making music which is built entirely from samples of other audio, such as hip hop, jazz, funk, psychedelia, and percussion tracks (also called sound collage or plunderphonics). The several sources are reassembled automatically and reworked to create a new track. Chenard believes that recontextualization of previously finished works can be done ethically and can in itself constitute authorship.
Chenard Walcker created the Free Sample Zone in January 2005, as an anti-copyright stance. FSZ is a fake netlabel where he publishes his work under various monikers. All the releases are free with complete artwork and liner notes.
In december 2006 it was announced that Chenard is slowly recovering from a diabetic coma. His family reports that he is not physically suffering. He fell into the coma in September 2006, and is now working on speech development and object differentiation.
A tribute album for Chenard was released by Dutch netlabel WM Recordings in september 2007: http://www.wmrecordings.com/releases/wm070.htm
