Chris Finke
From his predictably clichéd hip-hop and electro “roots”, a wide-eyed Chris became immersed in the early rave scene from the age of 15. It wasn’t long before DJing reared it ugly head and Chris was inflicting the aural damage to unsuspecting partygoers under a long forgotten stupid pseudonym…This flaunt with superstardom lasted for a couple of years until early 1994 where he decided to grow up and leave clubland for a stint as a local radio DJ where bass and beats were swapped for badly timed and poorly delivered jokes that no-one found funny except for himself.
Fast forward to the year 2000 (hopping over 2 appearances at the DMC CHAMPIONSHIPS), and Chris decided it was time to return to the decks, so he quickly hashed together the FLUX parties, which took place first in the Midlands, then moved a year later (with Andi Hawes) to London, where he persuaded a number of unwitting guests to perform under duress at the nights, including UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE (live), STACEY PULLEN, CLAUDE YOUNG, SLAM, OCTAVE ONE, SUBURBAN KNIGHT, DJ BONE, BEN SIMS, GARY MARTIN, RED PLANET, SPACE DJz, RADIOACTIVE MAN, and PURE SCIENCE. During this time his DJ appearances outside of FLUX increased and he became a regular annoyance at clubs in the UK such as ATOMIC JAM, HOUSE OF GOD & INTERGALACTIC FUNK, and it wasn’t long before the Europeans were being subjected to him as well. In 2002, the first FLUX European tour took place where the boys shut down a number of clubs and caused no less than 13 pregnancies. The FLUX RECORDINGS and SHUFFLE labels were both launched in the summer of 2003.
Chris has quickly established himself as a bright young thing of the future (!), now playing weekly around the UK and Europe, regularly taking in countries such as France, Spain, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and the USA, turning heads (and we daresay a few stomachs) as he does so. His imaginative 3 deck hip-hop style is different to most DJs-he is one of the few people out there that REALLY DOES mix up everything from jacking house music through to rock-hard thumping techno, taking in the classics, Latin beats, electro and long forgotten gems along the way. His production skills will soon be put to the public test when he releases his own material on both FLUX and SHUFFLE, and is currently lining up releases for a number of well established labels.
He also clocked up 2 high profile DJ residencies-firstly at the world famous ATOMIC JAM in Birmingham, UK, and at the infamous DECADANCE in Ghent, Belgium. FLUX has also hooked up with Ben Sims’ RETROVERTS for a series of high profile parties in 2004 at Turnmills in London.
He has now launched the SPLIT-parties @ Turnmills in London, together with Ben Simms where they have invited dj’s as Derrick May, Dave Clarke, Ade Fenton, … This is the first, big techno-night in London since quite some time !
In 2003, the long awaited FLUX RECORDINGS label was launched. It blasted off with a bang and the initial releases are permanent fixtures on the boxes of DJs worldwide. The label, like the parties will focus on all styles of techno and house from new well established artists. BEN SIMS, VICTOR SIMONELLI, GARY MARTIN, UK GOLD, MARK BROOM, DEETRON have all appeared on the label so far. Chris’s house label SHUFFLE RECORDS launched at the same time with the 1st release from Mr G. Read more on Last.fm.
