City Rain
City Rain is an electro-pop band from Philadelphia, PA. City Rain began in 2007 as an outlet for Ben Runyan's instrumental electronic compositions. It wasn't until 2009 with the release of the These Days EP that Runyan began moving more towards the sound that would come to define City Rain, including vocals and more traditional pop song structures. In 2010, guitarist Jarrett Zerrer joined City Rain providing live guitar over Runyan's vocals, keys, and electronic contributions.
The newly-cemented duo released their debut LP Running Man in September 2010 and the I'm Gone EP in October 2011. The releases garnered the band more widespread attention. They were voted Philadelphia's band of the month by Deli Magazine and began receiving airplay on Philadelphia radio station 88.5 WXPN.
2012 proved to be a busy year for City Rain. The band released two EPs (Watch Out and Montage). In February, the band was voted "Emerging Indie Electro Experimental Band of the Year" at the 2nd Annual Tri-State Indie Awards in Philadelphia. Guitarist Jarrett Zerrer left the band to form the electro-rock/pop band Dockument. Runyan's childhood friend Scott Cumpstone took over as guitarist and the two began working on what would be City Rain's most successful single to date, "The Optimist."
Runyan and Cumpstone are currently working on their first full-length album as City Rain titled Songs for a High School Dance. The tentative release date has been set for March 2014. The band has set up a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the album.
