Cutline
There aren’t many acts working in electronic music who can say they’ve had their music played by Trance god Paul Van Dyk and Drum & Bass don Andy C in the space of a month. Cutline can. With an approach to production that's all-encompassing Cutline make big room tunes that slot neatly between the pigeon holes of Electro, Dubstep and Drum & Bass, drawing influences from across the board.
Initially noticed for their future-garage collaboration with Barbarix, 'Hey! Plane Rave', championed by BBC Asian Network and snapped up by High Rankin for Suicide Dub, Cutline's musical output has bordered on musical ADHD trying their hand at all forms of 'bass music'. Enlisted by Ctrl-Z to remix a single for his Never Say Die label, Cutline turned out a reworking of Mindflow's 'Switched' that outstripped sales of the original and the DC Breaks remix, landing straight in the Beatport charts at #2 and catching the ear of the aforementioned Trance god.
Thanks to this success, a flood of remix offers came their way which saw Cutline working with J Majik & Wickaman, The Qemists, Nick Thayer and most recently The Prototypes. Cutline transformed their Radio 1 anthem 'Cascade' into a Drumstep remix so filthy that Andy C immediately headed to the mastering house to cut himself a dubplate for the weekend. Meanwhile their track 'Let Me Go' released as part of a various artists EP on NSFW was the most favourited video on YouTube and has been battered on Mistajam's BBC 1Xtra show and by Radio 1 legend Annie Nightingale, for whom they did a mix in December 2010.
With plans for an EP and a deluge of offers for singles and remixes including Danny Byrd’s latest single on Hospital, Cutline are set to be one of the busiest production outfits around in 2011. Their own label, Not Safe For Work, has already released an immense EP from Finnish dubstep wonderkid 501 with more to come from High Rankin, J Majik & Wickaman, Excision, Cubs and Cutline themselves.
