DT8 Project
DT8 Project is the brainchild of legendary producer Darren Tate, the man who gave the world Jurgen Vries, Angelic, Citizen Caned, Orion and many other massive cross over dance hits. The project was created with the goal of creating electronic music that married intelligent songs, sung from the heart, with emotional chords and cutting edge production. This was the very heart and soul of Darren’s desire to bring a modern but truly touching listening experience to the general public, and so the act bearing an acronym of his own name was born.
Originally DT8 Project (initially called ‘DT8’) started out with Kim Wilde’s little sister Roxanne fronting the act, and after an infamous bidding war between all the UK’s major labels the first single ‘Destination’ eventually landed in the lap of Pete Tong’s label London Records / FFRR (part of the Warner Music Group). Unfortunately politics became a factor and the record only managed a disappointing UK singles top 40 position rather than the Top 10 it much deserved.
Darren then took the act into another direction with the follow up single ‘The Sun Is Shining (Down On Me)’, where he brought in newcomer vocalist Rob Li. The record was an instant hit amongst the world’s leading DJ’s (in both it’s original trance and house mix format). Even though major labels were bidding to sign the record Darren’s courageously released the record on his own label ‘Mondo Records’, and despite heavy competition from other more established labels the single still managed to secure an impressive UK top 20 position. The record was licensed to labels around the world, appeared on many leading compilations and enjoyed major international success.
For the third single Darren brought on board Andrea Britton, who had previously worked with Darren under his pseudonym Jurgen Vries as the featured vocalist on ‘Take My Hand’ (released on Sony BMG in 2003). The single ‘Winter’ was a co-write with Victoria Horn, who had previously enjoyed much success with the likes of ‘Days Go By’ by Dirty Vegas. Winter combined the familiar trance sound with epic euphoric production and an original break-beat element and the result is still considered to be one of the great dance singles of it’s time. Snapped up by Ministry of Sound Records in the UK the record again broke the Top 40, though unfortunately the video didn’t bring the single home as it should have. The record nonetheless was licensed around the world and was a big compilation hit.
Darren decided at this point to take time out to finish the DT8 Project album, and focussed on bringing together the best artists and songs while incorporating his already established world class production standards. He sought out artists that would lend a unique sound to the album, which is how come A-list international performers such as Mory Kante, Gavin Rossdale and Nicolai Prowse became involved. The final result of is ‘Perfect World’, an album that pushes modern production boundaries and combines real instruments and music in a truly unique and enthralling way not seen before.
In addition Darren sort to find a central artist who’s voice could provide a performance that could lend magic to the emotional content of the album. The result was not one but two incredible artists, Maria Willson (who had recently been signed to Telstar until their unfortunate demise) and new comer Alexta.
Now in 2007 the ambition of “Perfect World” will fully be realised. The fourth single ‘Hold Me Till The End’ was signed to Sony BMG in the UK late 2006 and is getting the greatest reactions to date. However it is only the tip of the iceberg..
DT8 Project – Perfect World Very few dance albums manage to cross the fine line between credible songs, underground appeal,
yet having a cross-over widespread appeal that provides genuine listening pleasure or all generations.
DT8 Projects first album (and really the first official dance album of British dance producing legend Darren
Tate) well and truly lives up to that challenge. With soaring melodies and soulful songs this is an emotional
journey that carries the listener through the world of break beat, electro and tribal house, rock, chill out
and trance and seamlessly incorporates hugely diverse musical cultures from around the world with cutting
edge production. The album consists of fantastic performances from world renowned artists such as Gavin
Rossdale (‘Bush’), Mory Kante (”Yeke Yeke’), Andrea Britton and Nicolai Prowse, and for the first time
introduces the sexy and sultry voices of Alexta and Maria Willson who add pure magic to this stunning audio
experience. The songs of the album link together in a framework that simply put defines emotion. With
co-writes by some of the biggest names in the business including Victoria Horn (‘Dirty Vegas – Days Go Bye’)
and Erire Obano (William Orbit / Sasha Digweed) the album is full of great song writing that reaches out and
touches the soul. The album release is complimented by a 2nd club mixed CD (mixed by DT8 Project), and
features remixes by many of the world leading dance producers. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
