Danny Heines
Long known for his virtuosity as a fingerstyle guitarist, Danny Heines has been a major force in pioneering the rhythmically propelled technique of "tapping" on acoustic guitar. His multi-layered compositions and uniquely percussive solo pieces are rooted in a strong melodic sense and performed with awe-inspiring articulation.
In addition to his work as a guitarist Danny is among a handful of westerners adept in the art of throat singing, a technique producing two notes simultaneously, wherein the overtones of the voice are manipulated to create melodies while holding a single pitch.
Danny's strong passion for world music can be felt on his most recent fifth CD, "What Worlds They Bring", as he combines musical influences from around the globe, including folk melodies from Eastern Europe and Africa. Embraced by world music radio and listeners alike this CD reached #4 on the NAV national airplay chart and the #1 on the syndicated radio show, Echoes.
Heines’ four earlier discs on Silverwave Records have consistently charted in the top ten in magazines such as Billboard and R&R, with "Every Island" reaching #1 in Jazz Iz. He also appears on the Windham Hill Guitar Sampler and performs frequently with critically acclaimed artists such Michael Manring and Alex de Grassi.
Danny grew up playing rock & roll and jazz and in a musically rich environment in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where his mother promoted concerts, hosting bands such as The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Frank Zappa, and King Crimson. Upon hearing Danny sing at age two, Dave Brubeck told his mother he was destined for a life of music. Read more on Last.fm.
