David Bendeth
London England-born David Bendeth has been around music and musicians most of his life as a Guitarist, songwriter, producer and A&R executive. Self-taught on guitar before studying at the famed Berklee School of Music in Boston, Bendeth traveled back and forth between London and Toronto in his formative years before going on the road with the likes of Drummers Billy Cobham and Lenny White.
After working as a teenager at a record store and playing in the house band at London’s famed Speakeasy, Bendeth hit the top of the U.K. Charts as a blue-eyed soul crooner with the single “Feel the Real in 1980”. He went on to release three albums, ‘80’s Adrenalin (Epic Canada/EMI U.K.), ‘82’s Just Dessert (Ensign/RCA) and ‘83’s The Bendeth Band (Ensign/RCA) before joining CBS/Sony Canada as Staff producer. From ’87-’90, he was a songwriter with Chrysalis Music, penning songs for Joe Cocker (“Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right”) and Jeff Beck (“Ecstasy”) On the Flash album.. David also has written soundtracks for Michael J Fox among others.
In ’87, Bendeth had moved to New York as an A&R executive at CBS International, but was back in Toronto the following year as Vice President A&R for BMG Canada, where he signed such acts as Cowboy Junkies and Crash Test Dummies as well as Canadian platinum acts Prairie Oyster, Charlie Major and Treble Charger. Bendeth was rewarded with a move to New York, where he was named Senior Vice President/Staff Producer A&R for RCA Records and signed acts like Treble Charger, Vertical Horizon, Bruce Hornsby and SR-71.
In February 2002 David was asked to oversee the Elvis Presley 30 #1 Hits record. He went on to Produce, Mix and Engineer the CD in Stereo and 5.1 surround. To date the record has sold nearly 14 million records worldwide and was #1 in over 27 countries. It was the #2 selling record worldwide in 2002 only second to Eminem.
As of January 2003 David has become an independent Producer/Mixer/ Writer. With musical influences that range from Cliff Richard & the Shadows, The Beatles and Nat King Cole - whom he listened to as a boy growing up in England-to, Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Jimi Hendrix, Earth, Wind & Fire and Jeff Beck, Bendeth enjoys a vast range of musical styles. Bendeth's experience and accomplishments speak for themselves. He's played session guitar on Musique's disco-era smash, "Push Push In The Bush," and has worked with and produced more than eighty albums, totaling over 60 million records sold.At RCA David worked with SR-71 (RCA), Bruce Hornsby (RCA) and Vertical Horizon (RCA). David's work includes Elvis 30 #1 Hits as a producer and mixer.
In 2007 David produced and mixed The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Breaking Benjamin's Phobia and Paramore's RIOT amongst others. All three records went Platinum that year.
2009 was reunion of sort ,with Lenny White, Stanley Clarke and Nick Moroch, as David played guitar and mixed for Lenny White's new solo record. In 2009 David produced and mixed his third Breaking Benjamin record Dear Agony, as well as new rock band Cavo, All time Low, Mayday Parade, and Underoath. Mixes included the Kaiser Chiefs, Fightstar, Sick Puppies, Taking Back Sunday, Set your goals and songs for the films Transformers and Surrogates.
