David Gerard
David Gerard is a musician and composer, originally from New York City. He has been recording for the past 28 years, and has performed in the United States, as well as overseas. He considers himself an "ambient minimalist" - his music is equally informed by such legends as Klaus Schulze and Steve Roach as it is by Steve Reich and John Cage.
His first electronic outing, "A Piece of the Desert" was performed back in the 80's at the legendary venue, The Knitting Factory. He took a decade-long hiatus from composing/recording due to health and emotional issues. Then in 1994, after relocating to Boston, he met local producer/electronic musician Jere Faison. Inspired by Faison's spacey "ISO 999" CD, he began writing and recording again. The sessions produced the out-of-print recording, "Transcendental No.1" - recorded on analogue synthesizers direct to 24-track recording console.
Ten years later, he self-produced and commercially released "Compositions", comprised of pieces he had written in the timespan following his last project with Faison. To date, he has released 11 solo recordings, as well as 2 ensemble recordings with Elysium (featuring producer Rutger Holst and bassist/syntheist Paul Christensen.
His most popular titles include 2005's "Ambientism", 2007's "Moog Opus No.1" (inspired by his burgeoning friendship with Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Co. founders David Borden and Steve Drews,) 2009's 4-track suite "Rubaiyat", 2010's innovative "The Guitar Album" and 2011's "Etheria", which includes the mesmerizing "A Safe Place To Land."
In 2011, he was also commissioned to write an album of meditative ambient music to accompany an original art installation at the Burning Man Festival, outside of Nevada. That recording, "Music From The Pillars Of The Saints" is featured on Internet radio station SomaFm, as well as other tracks from Gerard's musical catalog.
In 2012, Gerard announced to fans via his Facebook page his next album, entitled "Film Cues & Ambience, Vol.1", and included a preview track, "Suburbia, Pt.1" on Soundcloud. Gerard's music can also be heard on the ambient/electronic compilation, "Ambient Hub 2012" on Wayfarer Records. David Gerard was signed on by Wayfarer in the Summer of 2013, will release his first album for the label, "At The Edge Of The Earth" in early 2014. He currently resides on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
