Din
There are at least 4 artists called "Din."
1. The original "DIN" is the brainchild of "Pupka Frey," formerly of the groups Digital Poodle, Kinder Atom and Rational Youth.
Throughout the 1990s he released three albums and one vinyl 12" on labels such as DOVe, Ninja Tune, Cleopatra and Hypnobeat/Hyperium. The music on these albums is difficult to pigeonhole, but is generally an eclectic mix of spacey, synthesized, often up-beat, frequently all-instrumental music. Copies of his out-of-print 12" sell for as high as 180 Euros.
In late 1996 Pupka delivered a No-Frills bag full of DAT tapes of new recordings to his executive producer Gerald Belanger, with plans of releasing a new album entitled "Starborn", featuring the killer single "Let's 69".
Plans for the new release were put on hold when Frey joined the long-standing synth-pop group Rational Youth in 1998, and was featured on a number of recordings and performed many times on tour in Europe.
Although Frey never stopped making music in his home studio, his attention was focused elsewhere and DIN was officially on hiatus until summer 2007 when Pupka and Belanger got together to comb through the stacks of unreleased material. They began compiling a series of digital-only releases to be available in late 2007, featuring new music as well as many remixes of earlier material, plus a live album and a karaoke 80's retro instrumentals disc.
Downloads of DIN's first 2 releases are now available worldwide on every major platform.
Discog:
1. Fantastic Planet (DOVe/DOVe Germany - Hypnobeat 1992)
2. Decade of the Brain (DOVe/Hypnotic-Cleopatra 1994)
3. Melonball/Watersports e.p. (DOV UK/Ninja Tune 1994)
4. Fantastic Planet Revisited (DOVe/Hypnotic-Cleopatra 1996).
2. "Din" is also the name of an artist appearing with a track, "Fly on the Wall", on the Guitar Hero soundtrack. This song, and many other songs on the album, "Longhair Music", had a sound similar to classic rock, while other songs were piano ballads. Months after the release of Guitar Hero, little or no word exists of the band.
3. There is another DIN artist on the very cool CHEAP label in Vienna.
4. Yet another DIN from the rock world has a few titles up at iTunes.
5. There´ s also one another band called DIN, from "Old mill" in the mittle of Bohemia, playing crossrock.
6. Din is a black metal band with progressive and death metal influences from the South Shore of Massachusetts since 2011. Line up: Mike Burns - Guitar/Vocals
Pete DeChellis - Drums
Morgan Coe - Bass. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
