Felicia Michaels
Felicia Michaels -- Voted in 1999 as the Funniest Female Comic by the American Comedy Awards -- has been entertaining audiences with her unique blend of provocative humor since the early 90's. With tongue figuratively in cheek, she has been exploring such topics as the dynamics of the male/female realationship, "dirty thoughts," and the proliferation of the sensual feminist.
Arriving in Hollywood with $40 dollars to her name, Michaels was soon honing her skills at the Comedy Store where she became a regular. Abandoning a string of "day jobs," she quickly started supporting herself via stand-up work, performing across the country on college campuses and "A-room" comedy clubs. She has appeared with her comedy on such cable networks as MTV, A&E, COMEDY CENTRAL, VH1 and SHOWTIME, not to mention such networks as NBC, ABC, and FOX, and also was a Comedy Grand Champion on Star Search.
Playing with and defying stereotypes, Michaels initially presented herself on stage as the quintessential "dumb blonde." But after several years of telling jokes in her high heels, she came to the conclusion that if she spent more time writing jokes than blow drying and mantaining her dried out blond tresses, her new monologue would soon be filled with stronger more insightful reflections, it becomes apparent
that intellect and wit are alive and well in this soft spoken talent. She has raised eyebrows by refusing to allow her gender tame her material.
An Army brat who was used to moving about, Michaels never flinched when it came to the rigorous travel schedule that a stand-up comedy career demands. 1997-1998 were whilwind years...While keeping up with a 25 week a year road habit, Michaels not only managed to have her first comedy CD released, but did a stint at NYU Film School, worked as an Assistant Director on a feature film and with time left over managed to make her writing and directing debut with the short film "In the Weeds," which received a CINE EAGLE AWARD. 1999 was also a very busy year, as Michaels was not only nominated for an AMERICAN COMEDY AWARD for the second year in a row, but also managed to win the award itself. Presently Michaels is not only putting the finishing touches on her latest film project, "Linda California," but also getting ready to release her second comedy CD. All this while she maintains a healthy presence on the comedy circuit.
A friend's dare prompted Michaels, at the age of nineteen, to make her way to the stage. Little did she know that this would lead her down the path of a colorful and fulfilling career. Today, she hopes that when audiences see her perform they'll think, "Wow, what a mouth from a girl in such sensible shoes." She does however once in awhile hear, "Thank-god, she finally got rid of that Farrah Fawcett
hairdo." Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
