Gerry And The Holograms
Gerry And The Holograms were John Scott and C.P. Lee. John Scott was involved with Manchester artists John Cooper Clarke and Jilted John, and had another band (or possibly a solo project) called 48 Chairs. Christopher Paul Lee a.k.a. Chris Lee had been a member of Alberto y Lost Trio Paranoias until that band has disbanded in 1978.
They released two singles on the Absurd label in 1979. The first - "Meet The Dissidents" - was a Residents-styled industrial record, using distortion and repetition. The second, "Emperor's New Music", was a conceptual joke since it was unplayable. The record actually consisted of a badly-pressed Slaughter And The Dogs single glued into the sleeve. Frank Zappa was such a big fan, that Lee at one time auditioned for his band the Mothers of Invention. Both Lee and Zappa decided it wouldn't be a good idea after all.
In 2017 the album "The Complete Unreleased LP" was released on the Finders Keepers label with unreleased material. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
