Gimp
(1) Gimp was a punk rock band from East Brunswick, New Jersey. The band consisted of frontman Tomas Kalnoky (aged 15) on guitar, Jason Scharenguivel as the bassist, and Chris Greer on drums. Tomas' brother, Achilles, played violin on the track Supernothing. This track is notable because Kalnoky later re-recorded it with two of his later bands (Catch 22 and Streetlight Manifesto).
Gimp released one album in 1995; a cassette tape entitled Smiles for Macavity. While the cassette is nearly impossible to find, the tracks can be found on the internet.
The band disbanded when Kalnoky decided he wanted to write and play more than punk music. Some of the members of Gimp left the band, while Kalnoky and Chris Greer stayed together, added a horn section, and started the band Catch 22.
Recent Popularity:
More and more people who listen to Streetlight Manifesto are learning of Gimp's Existence through Tomas Kalnoky Teasing to play Mrs. Butterworth's Indestructible Bomb Shelter at Streetlight shows. Since he first made this joke Past Gimp fans and new ones alike have often Chanted "BUTTERWORTH'S" at shows.
(2) Gimp is a grindcore band from Phoenix, Arizona.
