Harmonimix
Harmonimix is the alias of UK electronic singer, songwriter and producer James Blake. The project began in 2009 when Blake began uploading remixes of popular grime and dubstep songs to different forums. Over time, the scope of the Enfield experimentalist's project expanded from electronic remixes to remixes of popular R&B and hip-hop songs (Destiny Child's "Bills,Bills, Bills" and Lil' Wayne's "A Milli" are among his most popular).
Most of Blake's output as Harmonimix deviates enormously from his solo output, with a more experimental dancefloor-oriented sound. This sound (noted for its insistent synth sounds and deep sub-bass) has become as emblematic of Blake as his solo output's melismatic singing and forelorn lyrics. When asked by Pitchfork's Mark Pytlik about his approach, Blake commented in 2011 that "[t]here was no plan. I was just going along on my own trajectory."
While Blake's output as Harmonimix stalled once he began his career as a singer-songwriter, he revived the moniker in 2012 with a double-A sided collaboration with grime MC Trim called "Confidence Boost." He would continue to release remixes of popular artists like Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar in 2013 following the release of his second studio album Overgrown. Read more on Last.fm.
