From a Whisper to Arena Rock: Bill Bennett and Heard bring back the All American Balanced Rock and Roll sound…”
Bill Bennett is a rock and roll fisherman and Heard is his rock and roll crew. It is an ever evolving Musical being that has opted to be an ever changing, unpredictable unit. A band of misfits, dreamers, outcasts, Lovers, Wanderers, and delinquents.
Every record needs a memorable hook and Boston native Bill Bennett and Heard front man get it out of the way in the first 10 seconds of their debut ep “Have You Heard…” I can just see Beavis and Butthead de de de de dering to the hardcore breakdown that opens the record. I can see a 15 year old boy or girl pulling out Heards' lyrics and paraphrasing them to their parents "The blood in you is the same blood in me...then why do you seem like a stranger to me?.." Then she locks herself away in her room to listen to watch the entire series of "My So Called Life." From the opening hard core riffs of “Cancer” to the grungie ballad “Ever After” to the epic, real life guitar hero antics of, “Till Death Do Us Part” and “Beautiful Loser” that are like Radiohead- but dare I say- compassionate and giving to the listener. Heard blends the angst and frustration of coming to age, with the gratitude and gracefulness for those things and people helped you out. While located in LA now, Bennett, a proud BU dropout put his time in on the rock and roll streets of Boston in the 90’s, and ended up teaming up with fellow Boston native, and Letter’s To Cleo genius, Micheal Eisenstein to produce the record, and lend a few guitar licks too. Heard’s sound reflects the dynamic landscape of Bennett’s upbringing. Going between fast and slow, quiet and loud. Bands and backdrops from 4 season city bands like the Lemonheads and Aerosmith. The Replacements and Husker Du- like a Nirvana or Pearl Jam concert at the Boston Garden- from a whisper to arena rock. Heard live is a tour de force. Whatever you hear in the recordings, Heard live, draws on nothing less than the same energy of Springsteen, Guns and Roses, and the Ramones, with the class, performance, and sexiness of Justin Timberlake. As an oft labeled, sometimes misunderstood generation, Heard wants to prove to the world that the kids want more than what is given to them. Heard wants and should be Heard. These songs and this band serve as a soundtrack to what was once, what could be , and what should be. Hope in this suspended moment in time. Have You Heard..!?!?! Read more on Last.fm.
