3. A folk ensemble. ISKON means the beginning, time immemorial. Their music is of the land between the East and the West, it's music in which Europe and Asia meet.
ISKON revives the forgotten songs of Serbia , Macedonia and Bulgaria . The musicians preserve their original form, but also give them the seal of the new, embellishing and enriching them. Respecting both the past and present, they are mediators between these two times.
The folk song of Balkan people is a compound of things that determine a nation, their language and their music. While there are folk songs, there will be national memory. Without songs memory transfers into oblivion, sound into silence and nations disappear. ISKON wants to preserve the old Balkan music from that destiny, to show that it can be a source of inspiration to young musicians.
The elements of ISKON music are Balkans musical style, special and impressive female voices, and playing the traditional instruments. They prepare the arrangements for group performances based on musicological notes and sound notes on the field. This work demands research work, much love and goodwill.
ISKON performed on numerous festivals of folk creativity in Serbia and Bosnia, on church and folk meetings. Iskon played in Greece, Turkey, France and Hungary. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
