Jag Star
1888 MEDIA: (writer, Rob Evanoff)
Having been heard on every major broadcast and cable outlet over the course of their 10-year career, this critically-acclaimed quartet closed out the first decade of the new millennium the same way they began it; with the release of a new album.
Over the course of five full-length albums, Jag Star truly defined the DIY ethic as they have completely self-financed, self-released and self-promoted each one. The latest 10-song opus entitled Static Bliss finds the band working once again with producer Travis Wyrick whose layered wall of sound can be heard on albums by P.O.D., Pillar, Disciple and 10 Years. His deft touch adds a boisterous luster to the effervescent melodies of singer Sarah Lewis, a stalwart songwriter who has been honored with multiple songwriting awards over the years. This one-two musical punch is propelled to fresh heights of pop-rock perfection by guitarist J Lewis and the tight-knit rhythm section of bassist Drew Gilch and drummer Brad Williams.
For the initiated faithful, the band’s big bold infectious choruses have evolved into a trademark Jag Star sound that can only be adequately described as “Jagalicious”. One listen to the soaring guitars of lead-off track “Talk To Me” and the unbridled enthusiasm of “Shine” and one can easily imagine an arena full of fans vocally uniting as these epic songs fill every crevice with their expansive sound. Elsewhere, the ecstatic bliss takes a momentary breather with the introspective lyrical immediacy of “A Different Road” and the lilting ethereal soundscape of “At The End” while the band’s joyful energy punctuates the fluid modern rock of “Rewind” and the pixie pop-punk sound of “Pressure” which has an accompanying video shot by director Glenn Sweitzer of Fresh Films (Pam Tillis, Antebellum, Whiskey Falls, Hal Ketchum).
Static Bliss was released digitally in November to coincide with placement of “Talk To Me” in ‘Mr. Right Now,’ Episode 19 of Season 5 of MTV’s The Hills. Placements in this acclaimed series have occurred frequently since the show’s inception with the song ‘Leavin’ from Jag Star’s The Best Impression of Sanity album dubbed “the trailer theme” and licensed for the Original TV Soundtrack to The Hills (Epic Records).
Jag Star will continue to ascend the hills to pop-rock stardom. Along the way, they’ve befriended some climbing partners as they’ve shared the stage with Lifehouse, Joan Jett, Dashboard Confessional, Michelle Branch, Macy Gray, Gin Blossoms, Bowling For Soup, Tyler Hilton, Simple Plan, Edwin McCain, Jordan Knight and Fountains of Wayne. Additionally they’ve performed for U.S Troops in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Kyrgystan, Singapore, Hawaii, Guam, Diego Garcia, Kwajalein, and even in Cuba at Guantanamo Bay. Jag Star is currently putting together the final details for a February hometown show celebrating the release of Static Bliss with a spring / summer tour to follow.
