Jay Tripwire
In the late 80s and early 90s Jay Tripwire was heavily influenced by the deep futuristic sounds coming from Detroit, the classic house sound from NYC and the early raw freshness of the Chicago sound that it became a fusion Jay would be known for.
Living isolated in Vancouver, Canada gave Vancouver DJs their own sound and style of DJing. Tripwire honed his craft in the Vancouver underground scene, playing numerous warehouse parties, clubs, and afterhours events and making mixtapes alongside peers such as Tyler "Tbone" Stadius, DJ Ali, and Vernon.
During the 90s Tripwire was DJing 3-5 nights a week and was the house buyer for one of the local record stores. Not content to just DJ, Tripwire took courses in sound engineering and music theory and began building his own studio, which he named Teletran 1. He spent his spare time in the studio getting himself familiar with producing house tracks. Little did he know he would be getting the necessary expertise as a well respected local DJ to propel him to the next level of his career.
10 years ago Jay released his 1st record marking the beginning of what has gone on to be over 100 '12 inch singles selling more than 250 000 vinyl units total.
Tripwire's discography and list of venues played list is long and hard to keep up with, which go hand in hand with the grueling schedule he keeps in the studio and on the road. Tripwire has returned to his roots of that unique fusion of Detroit ,NYC and Chicago. He gives credit to being inspired by this sound again while living in LA and hearing one of his mentors, the legendary Doc Martin, play a 7+ hour set at one of Docs legendary Sublevel warehouse parties.
When it comes to deep basslines and soul-soaked Detroit-inspired grooves, there's only one name: Jay Tripwire.
