Joe Dukie
Joe Dukie (b. Dallas Tamaira) is a vocalist and visual artist most notable for being the lead singer in the New Zealand Dub/Reggae group Fat Freddy's Drop, a group which he co-founded with DJ Fitchie. His debut solo EP, Better Than Change, was produced by Mu (DJ Fitchie) under the name Dallas in 2001.
Following that effort, the two collaborated on the groundbreaking EP Midnight Marauders where they donned the monikers Joe Dukie & DJ Fitchie. The 12" was printed in limited release in New Zealand and Germany and mastered by George Horn of Fantasy Studios (San Francisco). The stage name Joe Dukie is drawn from his father Joe, also a singer, and grandfather who was a musician nicknamed Dukie after Duke Ellington. He was awarded Best Vocalist at the b-Net NZ Music Awards 2005.
