Judith Reyes
Judith Reyes was a singer from Tamaulipas, Mexico, born in 1924. She is known as the "mother" of the Nueva Canción Mexicana (genre of protest songs in Mexico) and one of the main singers of political songs in Latin America. Through the corrido, huapango and the coplas, she denounced the different contradictions of the post revolutionary period of the Mexican governments, especially the repression of workers, peasants and students during the sixties and seventies. She also wrote a book titled La otra cara de la patria ("The Other Side of the Homeland"). She died in 1988 as the result of a heart attack. Read more on Last.fm.
