Kheops
Khéops (DJ); Real Name: Éric Mazel born 1966
Profile: DJ/Producer from Marseille. Member of hip hop crew
-----------------
Kheops was a short-lived heroic-rock band from France who did this one and only album in 1992: "Gloire au silence". Influences here are quite obvious : Simple Minds, U2, The Alarm and generally every british band in that particuliar style. Passionnate vocals, layered guitars, poetic lyrics are the main arguments this band developped with talent and skills. All lyrics are in french (except for Francisca, a text in latin written by Charles Baudelaire). The main problem this band encountered in its short carreer was double : first, they were a little late as the hype for this kind of music had vanished with the coming of Seattle's grunge and Madchester dance rock; second, France had never quite bought into this kind of music. It was too much for Kheops to survive. The music remains, certainly dated but those with a nostalgic feel for it will certainly indulge themselves with great pleasure.
