Kite Flying Society
The term "Kite Flying Society" comes from the cult film "Rushmore". Two bands have since opted to use it as their moniker; both bands have parted ways.
1. The original Kite Flying Society is a Screamo band from Orlando, FL, USA. They released a 7" record and a few CDs on various labels: a self-titled 7", self-titled CD on Goodbye Blue Skies Records, 'Jochem' CD on TwentySeven Records, and most recently, 'A Discography' CD on Init Records. Members are now in Ghost Ship And The Gilded Edges and Cobra Starship among others. In 2006, Init Records released Kite Flying Society's Complete Discography, including demos and live performances.
2. The newer Kite Flying Society is a band from San Diego, CA, USA. They made melodic music with an upbeat yet earthy edge. Their lyrics are heartfelt and often based around a penchant for the sea.
Their debut album, 'Where is the Glow?' was released on July 28th 2006. In October 2006 they won 'Best New Artist' at the San Diego Music Awards. In February 2008 they announced their split for good, leaving an unfinished album "The Aviary" which might be published on their myspace some time during 2008.
The band was made up of: Derek Rast(Keyboard, Guitar, Vocal & Glockenspiel), (Kelly Duley Violin, Keyboard & Vocals), David Lizerbram (Bass Guitar), Dustin Illingworth(Guitar & Vocals) and Todd Caschetta (Drums and Percussion).
