Krisz Deak
Early life
Born in ’79 in the industrial city of Miskolc in eastern Hungary. Music has been an essential part of his life from his early childhood. It was certainly due to parental influence as his father is also a musician. Krisztian grew up amongst synthesisers, electronic organs and other instruments, no surprise he soon started playing with a Yamaha synthesiser and a PC.
At the age of 17, he started working with music on a more serious level. At first, he started collecting vinyl records and performed as a DJ in his hometown in local pubs and soon at Sky Music Radio, a local cable radio.
He moved to Budapest in 2001 where he got a job in a shop selling musical instruments. At this very shop he met Kalman Nemeth (a.k.a. Father Ohmikron) who had been playing for Radio Tilos, the number one underground music radio back then. They quickly became friends and started to work and perform together.
In 2004, he got his degree in sound engineering, which helped improve his skills immensely. It was obvious by then, that making music was the most important thing in his life.
The Budapest underground music scene
Around 2005, they founded the formation called ‘Hardtek Production’ with Father Ohmikron. They produced experimental dance music with a classic techno sound. After a few years of experimenting, they turned to deeper and clearer sounds. They’ve released their album in 2010, simply called ‘Hardtek 2010′. In 2011, Zoltan Solomon joined them as well now performing under the name of ODUM 3.
Today
By now Krisz has arrived to his genre of Dub Techno. Besides his DJ sets, he actively produces Dub Techno tracks utilising his widespread experience with analogue and other electronic sounds. In 2011 some of his tracks were released by the netlabel Deepindub followed by other tracks on Doppt Zykkler, Similar Acoustic and Bitlab Records. Krisz frequently performs full hardware live acts on his own or together with Zoltan Solomon. They recently formed a live co-operation called ODUM II joining forces with Zoltan, fusing the 2 artists’ different approach into a unique sound. Krisztian’s first solo album – dubbed ‘Aquarius’ – was released in March 2013 on an exclusive, limited CD by Deepindub, a label much in support of newly emerging talents of the Dub Techno scene. 2013 has also seen the release of Ante Biennium, to be followed by Deadlock in early 2014. Krisz currently has a number of albums lined up and to be released very soon.
Influences
Early on Krisz Deak had been heavily influenced by Daft Punk and the lively speed garage scene. His other influencers include, without being limited to Moritz Von Oswald (rhythm & sound), deep chord-echospace, Atheus, Quantec, Marko Furstenberg, Uusitalo a.k.a. Vladislav Delay and Kraftwerk, not necessarily in that order.
