Lucio Aquilina
Lucio Aquilina, besides being a big Naples -where he hails from- football team supporter, is also a devotee of the most mental music. He is one of the up-and-coming talents from the south of Italy that will most probably take over the older generation of Markantonio, Gaetano Parisio, Danilo Vigorito and Rino Cerrone, all of whom put Naples in the techno scene at the end of the previous century. Anyway, his influences don’t draw as much from that techno as from Britain’s Nathan Fake and James Holden.
Aquilina begun to make a name for himself in 2007 with a couple of releases for Trapez -3 hours and Feeling Plastik- and specially after signing for Cocoon -his biggest hit to date- and releasing the twelve inches Magic M. The track My cube included in this record, has been chosen by M.A.N.D.Y. to be part of his mix for Fabric (that’s the numer 38 of the series).
Lucio Aquilina follows up his Trapez Ltd twelve from earlier on in the year with this label debut proper, another 2-track burner from this relentless imprint. "Feeling Plastik" dominates the twelve with its clever use of modular synth transitions and robust rhythms, and while the sound palette is decidedly Minimal, the construction has no doubt been honed for peak time deployment. "Squared Circle" on the flipside is a little more retrained, albeit with a rigorous backbone made up of busy percussion and another analogue session that was inevitably a lot of fun to conduct.
