Malbec
Malbec (Pablo Signori-vocals, piano, guitar; Samantha Barbera-bass guitar, backing vocals; Nick Ruth- guitar, backing vocals; Sidney Miller-keyboards, programming; Mark Pontius-drums) formed in 2003 in Los Angeles creating what could be considered one of the first few bands to integrate sequenced hip-hop beats with modern pop stylings. Malbec uses a diverse palette of influences to inspire their writing. Traces of styles range anywhere from southern rap/hip-hop and brit pop, to classical compositions and folk music. This marriage of styles has proved to be a success with audiences locally and abroad finding fans in all genres of music.
Since 2003 they have managed to accumulate a steady stream of sync placements in TV shows and movies such as Ghost Whisperer, Flight of the Phoenix, Long Way Round, The Omen, Fox's VIP Passport and One Tree Hill. They were also the winner of the LA Music Pipeline Contest (Big FM Europe) competing against 3000 of LA's top bands and made the "Top 100 Best Unsigned Bands" list in Music Connection Magazine for 2005.
The origin of the name Malbec is derived from the Argentine grape popularly used to make wine. Within the band, the word represents Pablo's patronage to his descendants and family from Argentina. A Large part of what inspires Pablo’s lyrics is themes commonly seen in traditional Argentine folk music such as the struggles of life, falling in love, and heartbreak.
Malbec has put released two EP's working with famed producers Richard Gibbs (Korn, Eisley, and Robert Palmer) Rick Parker (Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club) and ex-Eve 6 drummer Tony Fagenson. They now continue to work on writing material for their full-length record. Malbec is focused and determined to create a new sub-genre of pop music for today's audience.
