Mark Holland
Mark Holland is considered by many authorities on Native American Flute to be among the top flutist performing and recording today. Leader and founder of Autumn' Child, Mark Holland has been called, ''the Jimi Hendrix of the native flute.'' His unique approach and usage of the flute along with his technical skills bring about such comparisons.
Holland has described his project Autumn's Child as Global Chamber Music; a hybrid of world, jazz, classical and folk styles. Through Autumn's Child, Holland showcases the versatility of the Native American Flute, creating a new acoustic instrumental fusion, an electric sound that is truly one of kind.
Mark Holland started Autumn's Child in 1995. He began his publishing and record label, Sedar in Sage Music in 1997. He's recorded 12 CD's to date. Holland has a B.A. in Music of the University of Missouri where he studied with his two members of The Saint Louis Symphony.
Mark Holland is known for his unique soulful style of ''playing from the heart''. Holland has been a featured artist at three International native American Flute Associations conventions in Kent, Ohio and Taos, Mexico and Belmont, California. He's also been a guest artist appearing at Musical Echoes, Flute and Art Festivals in Zion Canyon National Park, Utah. He has also been a guest artist at the Potomac Native Flute Festival in Rockville, Maryland and at the Flower Mound Native Flute Retreat in Texas and the Chippewa Valley Flute Retreat in Michigan. Holland has recorded some tracks for a future PBS documentary, ''Redemption Road''. He appeared as a guest on Capitol recording artist Chris Ledoux's cd, ''Horsepower''.
Mark also recorded a feature profile as well as two live concerts on Echoes, Public Radio International. A live version of Mark's composition ''The Distance Between'' is included on ''Bridges'', Living Room Concerts Vol.9 from Echoes. His cd, ''Visions and Dreams'' was voted #15 in the top 25 CDs for 2005 for Echoes listener's poll. It was also nominated for an Indian Summer Music Award 2005.Autumn's Child, ''Four Winds'' CD was nominated for a Native American Music Award / 2004. ''Progressive World'' was voted #12 in the Top 25 CDs in 2002 and was a finalist for World Music CD for Just PLain Folks Music Award 2006. Two compositions from the same album were also nominated. The music of Autumn's Child has been played on NPR, PRI,JPR, and satellite radio stations as well as a various community and Internet stations. Holland has shared the stage with such diverse artists as R.Carlos Nakai, Mary Youngblood, Bill Miller, Oregon, The Rippingtons, Acoustic Alchemy, Jesse Cook, David lanz, Tingstad and Rumbel, Tony Levin, Carrie Newcomer among others.
