Mia Rose
Mia Rose, born on the 26th of January 1988 in Wimbledon Village, London, is the stage name of Maria Antonia Teixeira Rosa, an English/Portuguese singer-songwriter.
On December the 29th 2006, during her Christmas break from University, Mia decided to open up an account on the popular video sharing website YouTube under the name “miaarose”. On this channel Mia would post a video everyday singing cover songs of her favorite artists. Within 2 weeks Mia became a global sensation on the net, was chased by various major record labels around the world and gained online and press coverage from Sky News and Daily Telegraph through to Rolling Stone magazine.
Following this worldwide interest, Mia Rose had a short period under the management of Tommy Mottola (Mariah Carey) in New York, Mia Rose worked with producers and writers such as Ryan Leslie, Brent Pashke, Uness and Kara DioGuardi. However, as the music industry struggled to cope with the digital revolution, Mia Rose returned to Europe to focus on being a DIY artist and singer-songwriter and to grow her already significant online fan-base. She sensed that having control over her career was the right way to go in the 21st century.
And it proved to be the right move. Mia Rose is the most subscribed musician on YouTube in the UK of all time, and one of the all-time most subscribed musicians globally. When Mia Rose posts up a video, usually shot by herself, a million hits in a month is not unusual. Not bad for someone whose only marketing over the last three years has been her website and YouTube channel.
Her voice, her easy way in front of the camera and the warmth between Mia and her fans has helped not just gain staggeringly high online views and hits, but also a worldwide fan-base who are extremely loyal and supportive of her journey and her music.
Mia is true crossover artist with almost half of her fans being teenagers, but a further third are over the age of 25. And hers is a truly global fan-base. During a recent video chat with her fans, she received over 7,500 messages from 27 countries in 90 minutes, including the US, Canada, Peru, most of Europe, Qatar, Japan, India and Malaysia. While at an event last year, Mia met with Queen Rania of Jordan, who also confessed to being a personal fan of hers.
The DIY philosophy is inherent in everything Mia Rose does. Be it a competition to spend the day in London with her fans, or to choose one of the tracks for her double A-Side Christmas single, her fans are involved all the way. Which is why she is also invited to prestigious social media events – such as Google Zeitgeist and SIME in Sweden to talk about her success.
Earlier this year, Mia recorded and self-marketed her own song “Let Go”, selling it on iTunes in Portugal, where it became the best selling download, and got to number 2 in the Portuguese charts.
Mia recently made the move to London to live and work on new material, and is finishing up her Christmas single “What Would Christmas Be Like?” was released via her website www.miaroseworld.com worldwide in early December 2009.
With the continued growth of her fan-base and the increasing demands on her time, Mia Rose has teamed up with music agency citizensound to help support her creative development, ensure her fans are looked after, and manage her business interests.
