The secret behind Michio's music lies in the successful blend of Mediterranean guitar, passionate Andalusian song and influences from the Far East. Michio transgresses boundaries in his compositions, inviting you to listen, dance or simply relax and chill out.
Yet when he performs live it becomes clear why Michio has dedicated himself to flamenco. Be you artist or audience, only here do you find this immediacy of emotional expression, which can never be displayed in the coolness of day and whose fascination remains unbroken.
On stage Michio fronts the Michio Flamenco Project, a group made up of full-blooded musicians, whose modern interpretations of the traditional rhythms go hand in hand with the music. The band show a successful synthesis of nuevo flamenco, creative arrangements and sheer pleasure in playing. Needless to say, the music itself defies pigeonholing. Michio's music is global flamenco of the highest standard.
Michio is one of the most in-demand exponents of nuevo flamenco. His music embraces both classical elements such as jazz and traditional melodies taken from his Asian roots. Drawing inspiration from his work with artists from a variety of musical and theatrical genres, Michio perfected his personal style over the course of last year. He wrote the scores for the 90-minute dance productions “Bernarda Alba” and “VergissMeinNicht” at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and, as a guest musician, was a popular arrangeur for a host of studio productions.
Michio's second solo CD, Zambullete, was released at the beginning of 2005 and met with an immediate response from fans and critics alike: “Dream crossovers of poetic depth and gentle melody”, “Hard-bedded chords and dry riffs”, “Ardour and melancholy join forces”. The Spanish flamenco magazine “El Olivo” wrote: “Just as Paco de Lucía symbolises the modern side of the genre, Michio again demonstrates its postmodern topicality.”
His latest CD, Así nada más, was released in October 2008, again under the Alameda Production label and is distributed by Galileo MC.
