Moiano
Moiano is very much Peter Lesage’s project, involving a lot of other musicians. 31 years old, living in Ghent (Belgium), Peter Lesage is a singer, pianist, writer, composer and producer. As a musician much appreciated by fellow artists, he played with Krewcial, 4T4, Plastyk Buddha, Flip Kowlier, Gabriel Rios, ‘t Hof van Commerce, Thou,... He also shared stages with The Spooks, Fertile Ground, Blackalicious and Bilal.
Moiano’s songs are poems with a strong soulful character, deeply influenced by today’s urban sound (hip hop, 2 step, nu soul). They’re sung by Peter himself or delivered by MC GUS. The rhodes or wurlitzer and hornsection create a 70’s sound, provoking an intriguing tension with the rhythms’ contemporary character. Sometimes very organic and danceable, sometimes laid back, smooth but always melodic, recognisable and fresh.
In April 2004 moiano released its debut album 'Soulschool' in the Benelux on its own label 'On the Moon' records. In order to announce this release, a promo single has been launched: ’The music and u' ,which is the opening track on the album. The second single 'Little less' and third single 'Underneath' got high rotations on several belgian radiostations such as Radio 1, Studio Brussels and FM Brussel. Former Moiano releases are 'It’s time e.p.' (2000) on B9000/Bang and 'Keep my heart with it' 12inch (2001) on B9000/EMI.
Moiano’s live reputation is one of a kind. Peter Lesage is backed by a 10 piece band. Bass player, also on the first Moiano e.p., is Maarten Standaert (Krewcial, Gabriel Rios). MC Gus, who’s the backbone for Krewcial, Belgium’s finest hip hop producer. Patrick Dorcean on drums (Zap Mama, Khadja Nin). Backing vocals by Nina Babet (Ozark Henry), a strong voice from the UK. Young and talented vocalist Steffen Caers is the newest member of the band, together with virtuose trombone player Frederik Heirman and the fabulous percussionplayer Eva Schampaert . Erwin Vann, an established composer and saxophone player in Belgium’s jazz scene (check out his records ‘some sounds’, ‘eleven’ and ‘worlds’!) also worked on the horn arrangements for Moiano. Much respected trumpet player Laurent Blondiau (Määk’ spirit) completes the band. In the last three years Moiano has been playing on several notorious festivals, such as Cactus Festival, 10 days off ,Bluenote Festival, Pukkelpop, Popgrond (nl), United Islands Festival (cz) and Dranouter to name but a few.
