NTL
1. NTL is a rap-crew from Novosibirsk, Russia, formed in the year of 2000 by Jerry. Initially, the group started with three guys who had studied together and had the same music interests: Jerry, Lyoha, and Den. Jerry, who had little experience in rap, suggested that they form a group; it was then the name "NTL" came. Their first performance took place at their school. Their song was about classmates and was read to one of Dr. Dre's mixes. Later, Lyoha left the group, but Jerry and Den continued working together. The two collaborated with a neighborhood group called "Bagabit;" their music was written by DJ the Cat. In this new squad, NTL performed at various concert sites in their town, in clubs, and hip-hop parties.
In 2001, as a result of Den’s recommendation, a Frenchman by the name of Hans entered the group, another new member, Sen, followed. In this new team, a few new tracks were recorded, the music for which was written by Jerry. NTL matured, and soon thereafter cut the ties with "Bagabit." At this stage, they started overrunning the Internet with their tracks; they also recorded music with rappers from other cities and counties. The first of which was Alex (iSquad) from San-Diego with the track "НТЛ и Алекс" ("NTL and Alex") - "Наш мир" ("Our World"). Later, they met Drago, with whom they recorded "Вертите Задом" ("Shake Your Butt"), which they brought to light at Russian hip-hop gatherings. Gradually, NTL decided they needed a girl to complete their group, thus, Tina came to the scene. It was during this same time NTL started closely interacting with Smeshnoi; it was his suggestion that finally persuaded them to take part in live-concert at the rap-territory on the Kemerovski TV program. It was this performance that brought them into the "Сибирский Альянс" ("Siberian Alliance"), which consisted of "Плохие Белые" ("Bad Whites"), "K-316," "56 Размер" ("56th Size"), and a few other solo MC's.
In 2002, Olven joined NTL for the debut track "Жертва" ("Victim"), which she recorded with Tina and Jerry. At this time, NTL had enough material to put together an album. Neither the local hip-hop rallies, nor the internet were enough to fully get their business going, so they started sending their promo-discs to various hip-hop labels. In the end, NTL lighted up on a few official and a bunch of pirated rap compilations.
At the beginning of 2003, Jerry left for Moscow to survey the situation with the labels and to get to know people who worked in producing. As a result, in two week's time, he returned with a proposal to sign a contract with S3T Production. The contract was signed. In 2003, their album debut "Выход" ("Exit") was released with the S3T Production label, a clip was filmed to the song "Вертите задом" ("Shake Your Butt") as well. Five people worked on this CD: Jerry, Hans, Sen, Tina, and Olven.
In 2004, Sen, Olven, Tina, and Hans all left NTL for various reasons. Lil' Dan, Jerry, and a few other new MC's - Нервный and Слон (Nervy and Elephant) {including partial participation by Hans} - worked together on the second album. Fall of 2005 brought with it the release of the album "Шаг в сторону" ("Step to the Side") with the Parnas label.
The official group of NTL, at the moment, includes Jerry, Lil Den, San, and Gang$ta. The world of Russian hip-hop looks forward to new productions by them.
2. N.T.L. or Non Toxique Lost was one of the pioneer group in the German industrial scene of the 80s. Using metal plates or percussions, analogue synths and electronics, effects, shouting vocals... their sound was a mix of rough experiments and structured abrasive industrial tracks... industrial music in the way it was meant to be...but not just that. The deutsche style you can hear while listening the "early" (not so early) Einstuerzende Neubauten is evident... Obsessive patterns "industrial-style", old-fashioned-drum machines, analogue synth, filters and guitars.
