Omar Rodriguez Lopez & John Frusciante
Omar Rodriguez Lopez and John Frusciante are both established artists in their own right.
Rodriguez-Lopez is the guitarist and leader of progressive rock band The Mars Volta, while Frusciante is the former guitarist of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Both have extensive solo discographies.
The pair's full length album, “Omar Rodriguez Lopez and John Frusciante” was released May 1st, 2010 through Sargent House. The album is free to download on Rodriguez-Lopez's Band Camp page, though the visitors can donate as much money as they would like to, to support music education in USA schools.
The tracks 0 and 0=2 were previously released on a limited edition 7" single in November 2005, through Rodriguez-Lopez's former label, Gold Standard Labs.
Previously, Rodriguez-Lopez was a guest on Frusciante's solo albums Shadows Collide With People, Inside Of Emptiness and Curtains. He also contributed to the track Especially in Michigan on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 2006 double album, Stadium Arcadium.
Frusciante is, in fact, considered a member of The Mars Volta and has contributed to all of their albums and made cameos on their shows (he even played the whole set replacing Rodriguez-Lopez when The Mars Volta opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers in September 2006). He contributed guitar, synths/treatments, vocal and lyrics to selected songs on Rodriguez-Lopez's solo efforts A Manual Dexterity, Se Dice Bisonte Non Buffalo and Calibration (Is Pushing Luck and Key Too Far).
Roughly a month after this, Omar Rodriguez Lopez Quartet, also featuring Frusciante, published Sepulcros de Miel ("Tombs Of Honey") through the same label, under same conditions.
