Palomine
The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, ... you name them. Only the biggest stars have fans in the smallest places on earth. Those places being just under 200 kingdoms and other states and realms.
But, not anymore. Belgian indiepop band Palomine can be added to that privileged list! Under the motto “The World is Listening” (Music is everywhere, music is of all cultures, let’s unite the world with music) the Palomine-boys started their quest for admirers in the whole world.
THE STAKES WERE HIGH
The band made a commitment to themselves: they swore they would not officially release their finished second album until at least one person from every country in the whole world had a chance listening to it first. (Which are 193 countries + Vatican City, according to wikipedia.)
This caused some people laughing, more people choking, and lot of people frowning. But, during 2009-2010, the band collected video messages from fans from EVERY country in the world.
As a proof, every fan had to film him/herself and upload their fan video to theworldislistening.com
At this website, all fan videos can be found by clicking on the interactive map.
As a thank you, everyone who sent in a fan video got the pre-release version of the new cd “Attention Alpha” for free. The band generously provided download links at interpals.net, facebook.com, myspace.com, tagged.com, couchsurfing.com... to expose “Attention Alpha” to potential fans.
The band also made a teaser for the whole project: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vZHx9QBx9M
This way, potential new fans could get familiarized with the project.
People from 193 out of 194 countries uploaded their movies at theworldislistening.com. Finding a fan in Vatican City was more difficult than expected... So the guys travelled to Vatican City themselves to find that last fan and record that last video message! The band also shot the music video for "Never be the same" in Vatican City.
It took the band 11 months to complete the whole project. Palomine now gives all those fans their “second of fame” in their new music video “Never be the same”. This means that people from every nation in the world are featured in their music video. You can watch all fan video messages at theworldislistening.com.
