Phallus Über Alles
Phallus Über Alles is a feminist digital hardcore band formed in the late 1990's by Diesel Sam and Remy Brecht. After shopping self-recorded demos to labels, they were invited to release their debut album Iron Woman on Fatal Recordings, the Berlin-based label of Atari Teenage Riot member Hanin Elias. The album earned dozens of rave reviews and a featured spot on Tower Records Japan, as well as a slot at the prestigious Detroit Electronic Music Festival.
PÜA's music has been described as a mix of oldschool punk, gabber, breakcore, and industrial, and is often favorably compared to artists from the Digital Hardcore label that first influenced the band. Their signature sound incorporates layered female vocals, distorted breaks, and both sampled and real guitar.
After the closing of Fatal Recordings, the band began releasing a series of EPs and remix singles via Toronto's D-Trash Records while maintaining a regular schedule of shows and festival appearances. As of 2009, the band has wrapped up work on a five-part CD series dubbed "Five Fingers Make a Fist" and is preparing to release their sophomore album.
