Plethyn
Folk group Plethyn were formed during the 70s and comprised Linda Healy (b. 11 May 1958, Welshpool, Powys, Wales), Roy Griffiths (b. 15 December 1952, Welshpool, Powys, Wales) and John Gittins (b. 30 November 1951, Welshpool, Powys, Wales). The name Plethyn is meant to convey the notion of three harmonic voices blending together to form one sound, like the three strands in a plait. Having started with local performances, the group extended their territory to cover the whole of Wales. From initial appearances on Welsh television, and playing at a festival in Brittany, they released Blas Y Pridd, which combined traditional and contemporary folk songs. They performed at the National Eisteddfod during the same year. The trio performed "Can I Cymru" ("Song For Wales"), at the Pan Celtic Festival, in Killarney, Eire, in 1980, and two years later toured Sardinia. Caneuon Gwerin I Blant was an album of traditional children's songs. In 1985, the group toured California, USA, and in 1990, Vancouver, Canada.
